It’s 2010 and I’m moving forward, guns-a-blazin with new music. For the last many years I played a handful of solo singer/songwriter songs that I wrote a while back by the names of Someday and Still Here. I played the hell out of these songs, and to my friends and family who have provided continued support and heard these songs far too many times, know that I appreciate the support and feedback. I had stagnated a bit musically for a while, yet found myself flourishing creatively with my career and with a new found passion for photography. I find myself now refocusing on forging a new path as a musician. This is an exciting time.
Over the last few months I’ve been moving forward with a host of new songs in development. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone of only vocals and guitar and have moved into playing bass, learning to produce and write better lyrics. I’m also experimenting with instruments I’ve picked up in my travels, seeing what can be done with Aboriginal music sticks from the Outback, a thumb piano from Hawaii, Charango from Peru and a Djembe from the Ivory coast. Even dabbling in music theory a bit, as all these years my music has come straight from the heart/fingers/vocalchords, but has been a challenge to articulate or visualize during the song-writing process. Locked up in my newly built home studio, I find myself surrounded by scribbles of concepts, far too many instruments and excitement as I move forward with writing.
On the performance front, I’m ramping up live shows to get into the scene in San Francisco. I have upcoming open mic nights around SF, and very excited to announce an acoustic set at the world-famous Roxy club on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. My intentions are to move towards more formally solidifying a band with its own name and supporting players. I’d like to write and record an album and tour behind it. My actions are moving in that direction.
If you couldn’t already tell, I can be a bit of an ADD creative. I’m satisfied with simultaneously writing, playing instruments, taking photos, designing, promoting, and finding any new way to create and share. I have a lot of optimism that there is something new and special that will arise from this, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Thank you as always for your interest and support, I hope to see you at a show soon.
XOXO,
Austin
